It's been 8 months. 8 months as a first year at Pearson College, and there's one month left. This is crazy! I've only very recently realised how long it has actually been, and how short we have left together, year 44/45. This is so sad to think about, so let's not go there yet. Last time I posted, I had just got back from Project Week. Since then, I have mostly been focused on school stuff (exams are approaching fast!!) but have had some cool breaks in between that have been SUUUUPER fun. The weekend after project week finished Noah (Netherlands) and I went into Victoria to attend a youth activist training workshop. It was at the University of Victoria and we heard from people who have lots of experience in activism, who were really interesting to hear from. The next week was block week so we had longer classes than normal to allow for labs, field trips and exams. We went on a marine science field trip to East Sooke Park to look at the rocky intertidal zone, and explored the beach at low-tide after dinner as a class. That weekend Noah and I went to Victoria again, this time to speak at an 'expert panel' on climate change, 'giving youth a voice' in the event. We also went to visit the Railway Trestle Bridge in Goldstream, if you're ever on Vancouver Island, I would definitely recommend checking it out! The next weekend (14th April) was Golden Shoe, the annual inter-house soccer tournament that Pearson has. It was so much fun playing soccer with everyone either playing or cheering, and even though Japan House came last, we still had a lot of fun. Over the Easter weekend, we went and hiked the Juan de Fuca Trail. We (Izzie - New Zealand, Mara - Canada, Noah - Netherlands and I) were out there for 3 nights, hiking and camping in the slipperiest, muddiest conditions I think I have ever hiked in. There were many falls, many splashes, many accidental boots full of muddy water, and many smiles and laughs the entire time. Getting off campus for those days was so nice, not thinking about school, not thinking about anything really except for where to put your next foot and what time we were going to start dinner. Coming back from that trip, we went straight back into school, and it's starting to get intense. Today is the second years' last day of classes, with exams running from next Thursday right through until the 24th of May. Next week is our last week of CAS (after school activities) and then it's study study study until our exams in May. I'm getting excited to come home, but so sad to leave this place. Coming back without all our second years will be a very weird feeling, but I'm also really excited to meet all of our first years. One more month until I fly back to Straya, that's still so hard to comprehend! See you soon Aussies! Love Bella
